host: republican -- democratic caller in woodbridge, virginia. caller: make sure you meet your set. how are you doing. i have to agree with the last caller because she has a great point. for the last couple years -- host: make sure you meet your set. caller: extending the tax cuts for the wealthy to me is not a great idea. you say that they spend at least $160 and the lower and middle class people spend about $60. let me point out to you it does not matter at all what tax cuts they get. they are most likely going to hold on to their money. my thing is this -- and i have been looking at c-span for the past couple of months and the ugly rhetoric i hear is taxes. what can we do for the middle- class and poor people in order to stabilize the taxes from this point on? can you answer that question? guest: for the middle class only? that would be the tax cuts. republicans and democrats believe those cuts should be extended. many believe they should be made permanent. right now with the economy is where taking a short review of for a year scene where we are and then make a decision later. e

cnn congressional correspondent data bash is in sterling, virginia. dana, are we talking about contract with america 2.0 here? >> reporter: in many ways, yes, kyra, the whole theme as you said among house republicans is to try to convince voters just six weeks before the election that they do have some plans to actually run the government. however, just look at where i am and the images of people remembering in 1994, how different it is. the last thing in the world that republicans wanted to do would be to stand on the steps of the capitol as they did back then representing everything that some of the people that they're really trying to get can't stand. that's why we are here at a small business. that's the emphasis today. the whole question of whether or not anything is different in here, we see a lot of what we have heard. the fact that they want to trim spending, the fact to make tax cuts permanent, the fact to repeal the president's health care plan and there are some small pieces in here that i think are interesting and i should show our viewers
